We are group of senior citizen friends organized in February, 2025 because we could no longer sit still and watch our democracy disintegrate before our very eyes. We set some goals and sponsored our first rally, a "Hands Off" demonstration. Thanks to several ways to publicly post our plans, we had 600 people show up in this suburb south of Seattle.
Next we formed a collaborative relationship with Des Moines Indivisible. We coordinate our rallies and other events with them and share an email list developed at our rallies.
Someone once asked, "Why do you do this? Do you actually think you can change things?" The response was, "We do this so things don't change us." Pretty good reason, we think.
Four things, actually.
- Our most visible, of course, are our PEACEFUL rallies. We gather at the Big Catch Plaza on the first and third Saturdays of the month from noon to 2 p.m. Special days may call for special actions as announced on https://www.mobilize.us/. Des Moines Indivisible usually rallies at the same location on Wednesdays from 3 - 5 p.m. They'll create special events in different locations, too.
- We coordinate postcard, letter, and phone campaigns as needs arise.
- We are developing Conversation Cafes with the goal of learning how to talk across the aisle, if you will, in these deeply divided times. Public events will be posted on mobilize.
- We work at sharing resources as we are able.
- Well, you are always welcome at our rallies. Bring your own posters, borrow one here, or make one on site.
